Students Must: - Be enrolled as a full time student
- Reside on the Qualla Boundary or in Cherokee, Graham, Jackson or Swain County
- Possess and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5
- Pass a drug test
During the school year students may work up to 20 hours per week during a 16 week semester. (This is a total of 320 hours per semester.)
During the 10 week summer program students may work 40 hour per week. (This is a total of 400 hours for the summer.)
GPA Ranking: As the Intern Program becomes more competitive applicants will be ranked by their GPAs and placed on the program accordingly. Priority will be given to the applicants who: 1. are doing an internship for credit 2. apply by the deadline 3. have the highest GPAs Internship for Credit: Students who are required to do an internship as part of their program of study will be given first priority as interns. They must receive class credit for their internship. They must also find a sponsor, preferably a professor or a school official, in their program who will sign an MOA with the EBCI Education Program. The sponsor will supervise the intern and will be responsible for submitting timesheets.
College Workforce: Tribal Programs: Students wishing to work with a Tribal Program must work in concert with the Training Program Staff to find a Tribal Program Manager who will sign an MOA with the EBCI Education Program. The sponsor will supervise the intern and will be responsible for submitting timesheets.
Other Entities: Students wishing to work with any other entity must find a sponsor who will sign an MOA with the EBCI Education Program. The sponsor will supervise the intern and will be responsible for submitting timesheets. Proposed Timelines: August 22, 2008 Internship Program Application
Deadline Aug. 25- Sept. 12, 2008 Application Processing, Executive Committee Approval, Drug Testing For New Interns Sept. 1-12, 2008 Interns on the program that meet the GPA requirements begin work October 15, 2008 Internship Renewal Forms due for Spring April 1, 2009 Internship Renewal Forms due for Summer June 1, 2009 Full Internship Application due for Fall Drug Testing: New interns will be drug tested as they come onto the program. Interns already on the program will be subject to random drug tests per the Tribal policy for as long as they remain on the program. |
